We own a second floor unit at the Honua Kai Resort & Spa – it’s a 1-bedroom villa and just gorgeous. Our unit has an ocean view and you can watch the Maui sun setting in the Pacific ocean right from our Lanai (balcony).  The Honua Kai Resort & Spa is smoke free resort in compliance with Hawaiian smoking laws.

I’m going to be honest with you folks – there is an inactive construction site next to our villa (Westin Hotel).  There has been NO construction for the past year and the rumors say no construction for a year but I can’t guarantee that.  So our beautiful villa is therefore permanently on sale for value minded folks who would rather spend the saved money on airline tickets, whale watching, road trips to Hana, fine restaurants, etc, instead of a green view.  I challenge you to find a lower published rate anywhere!!!

Don’t get me wrong, you can see the ocean from our lanai and for half the day you can’t see the construction since the sun has set.  So if you want to stay at the hottest new 5-star resort on Maui at the cheapest rates our villa is for you.  You get the resort facilities just like the other folks who paid megabucks more, same swimming pools, work out rooms, underground parking, etc.

Our 1-bedroom villa has 4 competitive rental rates during the year:

5-night minimum stay required except for Holiday Rates – they require a 7-night minimum stay; contact us for shorter stay reservations.  Rates are subject to change without notice.  Once you get our rate quote the rates, and availability, are valid for 24-hours.  A $135 cleaning fee is charged based on single check-out cleaning; optional daily maid service is available at $40 per day.  Washer/dryer is available in the villa for your convenience.  Hawaiian taxes of 12.42% (13.42% on 7/1/10)  are added to the final rent.

How can we offer these crazy prices?  Simple, to keep our rates this low we require all monies paid up front with no refunds!  All my competition must account for renters backing out and returning deposit monies – they have to jack up their normal rates to account for this.  My suggestion is for you to take out travel insurance and insure your entire vacation, our rent, your airline tickets, pre-purchased activities.   This insurance costs 8% to 10% of the vacation expense.

The money you save from me will pay the insurance premium for the insurance firms I recommend and will return 80% – 100% of your money for ANY reason you cancel – even if it’s “We don’t feel like going on vacation”.  Click this link for more information about travel insurance.

“Firesale Discount”

14 days before check-in has the rate dropping to $99 per night! The money you save staying at our villa will ease the higher airline fares!  So check our calendar often for great “get-a-way” specials.  The cleaning fee is still charged as are the Hawaiian taxes.  “Firesale Discounts” require all monies be paid up front and are non-refundable.

Additional Fees

There is a $135 cleaning fee per reservation and with the 4.166% tax is $140.63.   When you check into the Honua Kai, the front desk will charge $10 per day for self-parking in the underground garage, $15 per day for valet parking, plus tax.  I can’t collect that fee and neither can anyone else but the Honua Kai’s front desk when you check-in.

Payment is through PayPal; the largest bank in the world with 168 million members.  If you don’t have an account it will take about one minute to set one up.  You can use a credit card to make your payment in PayPal.  We have two payment methods:

• Travelocity Cost per day is $442.75 + 12.43% Hawaiian tax = $501.16 per day or $3,508.10 for the week

Note: the large travel agencies love to hide the $25/day Resort Fee that they MUST charge (we don’t).  Some of them footnote and tell you that the front desk collects it so they leave it out of their rates – but it is NOT optional and is a sneaky hidden charge.  I don’t play those games and we don’t have that $25 Resort Fee.

• Punch in the keycode I sent you and then enter any code you want to use during your stay
• If you need optional (for an additional charge) maid service or have a maintenance issue, help is but a phone call away and close by

• When your vacation is over simply close the door to our villa and inform the front desk you are leaving

KeyCode Door

What makes our reservation process so simple and super safe for you is the 6-digit keycode that I send you.  The keycode is only good starting at 4 PM on the day of your check-in and expires at 11 AM on the day of your check-out.  During that time you have complete access to our villa but the keycode expires after 11 AM on the last day of your reservation.  Each guest reservation gets a unique keycode that is never issued again.

No need to track someone down and get a room key; you already have the keycode as soon as you make the reservation.  If someone in your party is arriving before or after you simply tell them the keycode and they can get into the villa.

Once you open the door you can then reprogram it to any simple number that you and your family can easily remember.  It’s no harder than programming the safe in the villa.  You can make this keycode the same as the safe’s keycode in the villa if you wish.

You can’t lose your keycard nor demagnetize it by putting it near your cell phone.  If the maids need in their keycodes only work from 8 AM to 5 PM; same with any maintenance men who might need in during your stay.  When you go swimming you don’t have to worry about losing your keycard or keys.

If there should be an emergency the a master key can be brought over from the management company.

F.A.Q.

How does the “Firesale Rates” work – I’m not sure
When you get a rate quote from us, any days 14 or less days from today are discounted to $99 per night.  Not all your days are $99 just the ones that are 14 days or less from today.

Do we check-in with the front desk when we arrive?

Yes, the front desk must know who is roaming the halls of the resort.  When you check in they will ask you if you have a car and if so the parking fee is $10/day or $15/day for valet parking.  You will be given a tag which goes on the rearview mirror of your car.  The front desk of the Honua Kai is manned 24/7.

Can the bellman help us with our luggage?
Theoretically no – only folks who paid 2 times as much by renting direct from the Honua Kai get that service.  Trust me, the bellman will have no problems if you wave some money and shout “Bellman”.  Our villa is on the second floor and the elevators are just steps away from the front desk.

I don’t have a PayPal account – what do I do?
Simple; just log onto PayPal.com and set up a new account – takes 30 seconds.  Then when I send you the invoice to be paid you log into your PayPal account and pay with a credit card like any other sale.  There is no charge on your end of the transaction.

Ok, I want the discounts but what happens if our travel plans change?
Travel insurance.  We highly recommend that you purchase travel insurance whether you rent from us or someone else.  You may not realize it but you ALWAYS pay someone to insure your rental villa; either you pay much more in quoted rates (for agencies that allow last minute cancellations) or you buy it yourself and then it covers the villa rent AND airline tickets AND any pre-paid activities that are a must on Maui.  (Zip line for instance during holiday periods)  I’ve written an article about travel insurance – click here to read the article.  Think about all the things that can go wrong with a vacation and you will quickly realize that travel insurance is a smart idea.

If our plane is late and we get to the Honua Kai at 2 AM – how do we get into our villa?
No problem with us – that 6 digit keycode that we sent you works from 4 PM on the day of check-in to 11 AM on the day of check-out.  If you rent from other owners who don’t use the keycode lock you will have to hunt down keys at 2 AM – good luck and I hope you brought sleeping bags.

What is the $25 “Resort Fee” that so many other places charge per day?
Travel agents, and the Honua Kai itself, charge $25/day in addition to the room rent.  This $25/day is NOT charged by us.  Many of the big travel agents hide this charge by either not telling you about it or just sluffing it off as a charge you must pay at the front desk when you check in.  That $25/day is for pool towels, Wi-FI, and the ability to charge things to your room.  We just provide pool towels in our villa and after swimming just throw them in the dryer or wash them if you wish.  You save $175 per week by doing that.  Quite frankly when on Maui you shouldn’t be at the pool doing work on your PC.  You can do that back at our villa if need be.

How does maid service work with our rental?
The Honua Kai is a 5-star resort, not a 5-star hotel.  Hotels have daily maid service in their prices.  Orbitz is an example of a place where they must hike the rental rates very high to include daily maid service.  We are like timeshares and private condos – there is no maid service unless you pay extra for it.  For $40 you can call to have maid service tidy up your villa; the choice is yours.  Spend the maid money on whale watching and fine restaurants; just tidy up the place yourself – takes 5 minutes a day.  However, if you are a slob and require maids to spruce up the place every day you can pay $40 extra for them.  If you are at our villa for more than a week the $40 maid service is just great once – get new towels and linens and a cleaning.  Remember; hotels don’t have washers and dryers in the room like we have at our villa.

Can we use the Ki-Ki (Hawaiian for kids) Club?
No, we are not affiliated with the kids club at the Honua Kai.  We do offer the service to have a professional baby-sitter come to your villa and spend time with the kids – the charge is about the same.

How about room service at the Honua Kai?
Honua Kai has just started room service which is handled by the two fine restaurants within the resort.
